Start a business – what the hell was I thinking!?!  Oh, I know what I was thinking.  I thought this would be easy. I already have years and years of experience.  Who wouldn’t want to hire someone with my background?  Instead, here I sit at my 9 to 5 job, and I struggle not to throw in the towel and say to hell with it.

Yes, there is more networking I can do.  However, being an introvert, it is difficult for me to get out there and talk to people.  I’ve never been good at talking about myself.  That interview question, “Tell me a little about yourself,” leaves me blank minded and looking like a dear in the headlights.  What do I say that isn’t already on my resume or in my bio?  I want to say, “Well, as you can see from my resume…” but I know that would be the interview killer right there.  I could go with, “well, I currently do small procurements for a state university.  Previously I did events, and hopefully, in the next few years, my virtual assistant job will be my only job”.  But, all that is on my resume.  What else is there to say?  That I am a huge fan of the TV series Outlander?  How does that help the business?

I have had one person contact me as a result of a flyer I sent to random addresses I found in a business directory.  He wasn’t looking for what I had to offer – he wanted a service I hope to be offering in the future.  He wasn’t prepared with a list of tasks or questions either.  And I haven’t heard back from him.

So, who would my ideal client be?  A small business owner or a non-profit who is looking for someone who will work in the background keeping them on track by doing the office tasks so they can concentrate on the creative side of the business.  Something long term would be desirable as well.
